Tama Art University Graphic Design Department Graduation Exhibition 2019

Headline: Body text:

The graduation exhibition for the Graphic Design Department at Tama Art University will be held from Saturday, March 2nd to Sunday, March 3rd, 2019.

For the booklet of the Tama Art University Graduation Exhibition, Morisawa's advertisement was created using the MORISAWA PASSPORT Academic Edition. We spoke to Kanai (right in the photo) and Abe (left in the photo) from the PR team, as well as Sasaki, who created the work used in the advertisement.

The theme of this graduation exhibition is "From X."
This year's graduating class is made up of many members with strong personalities, and when they came together, an unknown energy was born, and a giant monster called "X" was born.
The experiences and emotions that people who come to our graduation exhibition gain from seeing our works are a gift from X.

It is our hope that the works of each of us, who are the components of X, will have a positive impact on people and that this influence will continue to spread into the future.

It's an energetic and impactful theme!

For the visuals of the advertisement, we asked them to create a three-dimensional "letter specimen" based on the image of an insect specimen.

The structure and shape of the characters vary slightly depending on the font, and each has its own attractive personality.

I think there is an aspect of being a researcher in the process of carefully observing the characters down to the smallest detail and creating them through painstaking adjustments.
The elements of "harai" and "hane" give off a sense of vitality, as if they could start moving at any moment, so we likened the letters to living creatures and expressed them with the visual of a specimen model.

From his university studies, Sasaki felt that the craftsmanship of a typeface designer was similar to that of a researcher, and that typefaces are breathed with life. I think it has become a wonderful advertisement that conveys his thoughts.

It was difficult to choose a font that matched the style and copy content of the advertisement. Each font has its own unique appeal, and the impression it gives to the reader changes depending on the type and family, so we carefully chose while keeping these differences in mind.
We also spent time making final adjustments to the typesetting and spacing, aiming for a typesetting that is natural and stress-free to read.

Be sure to visit Yebisu Garden Place this weekend and experience "X" for yourself!
