"Peer Pressure and Empathy"

Writer and director Kokami Shoji

What is the relationship between the term "conformity pressure" that we hear so often these days and the hot topic of "empathy (the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes)"?
He revealed the true nature of Japan's unique "society," and shared the secrets to better communication, including wisdom for surviving the difficulties of living in this country and how to cultivate "empathy."

Participant comments

I learned that trying to think from the other person's perspective, rather than just empathizing with them, is a skill that will help me survive in today's diverse society. I would like to share this knowledge with the people around me in my work.

I think the content of the seminar can be used for sending and transmitting information in communication. It gave me an opportunity to think about how to make it easier to communicate not only to the general public but to people in society as a whole.

In the post-seminar survey, over 95% of participants said they were satisfied with the seminar and found the content useful!

This seminar was attended by people of various ages and occupations, and it seems that each participant gained insight into the communication challenges they face in their own activities.

Morisawa has previously held seminars on themes such as "Multicultural Coexistence Society" and "Easy Japanese," and many of the participants are active in these fields, and they were able to take home insights that they can use in their own activities.

I am working to spread the word about "easy Japanese." I thought that by communicating the idea of empathy, it would be easier to understand the need for "easy Japanese."

As I often come into contact with international students in my work, I want to make it even more important to think from their perspective.

The theme of the June session was communication. The ultimate goal of this seminar series is to create materials that "communicate." Many participants felt that the concept of "empathy," the ability to put oneself in the other person's shoes, could be applied to the mindset of creating materials!

Whether interacting with people or working in graphic design, the idea of "empathy over sympathy" helps reduce stress and facilitate smooth communication!

My mindset before creating materials has changed!

Designs that communicate one-sidedly can lead to misunderstandings if they are not communicated properly. To communicate effectively, it is important to think from the other person's perspective. In this seminar, I hope to share the secrets of flyer creation.

A presentation is made up of three elements: "content ability" - putting yourself in the other person's shoes, "people ability" - which can also be described as personality, and "communication ability" - a combination of the clarity of the materials and speaking ability. Of these, I will focus on the clarity of the materials.

It is important to put yourself in the other person's shoes in order to ensure that your public relations efforts are not just "communicating" information, but that they are "reachable" to residents. In my seminars, I will incorporate exercises to ensure that press releases and flyers are easily understood.
