Report on the "Communicative" Presentation Design Training at Tamatsukuri Junior High School in Namegata City, Ibaraki Prefecture

Headline: Body text:

On December 16, 2021, Morisawa Inc. gave a lecture to students at Tamatsukuri Junior High School in Namegata City, Ibaraki Prefecture, on tips for creating presentation materials that "communicate." Namegata City, Ibaraki Prefecture, has introduced UD fonts for public organizations to GIGA School Project terminals (student computers) and is developing human resources so that each individual can disseminate information that "communicates." This lecture was planned as part of that effort.

At Tamazukuri Junior High School, students are given the opportunity to use their time for comprehensive learning to research the attractions of Namegata City, and to compile and present their findings in presentation materials. In addition to using UD fonts in their presentation materials,Creating materials that "communicate"We aimed for this.

Brush up your presentation materials to make the information easier to understand

We will introduce the presentation materials of the two teams, which have been polished based on the lectures and advice from the instructors.

Key points for effective presentation materials
  • The slide featured the name of the store I wanted to introduce, Yukibido, which caught my eye.
  • By organizing the information, I was able to naturally move my eyes downwards to read the details.

Team B

Before the remake

After the remake

Key points for effective presentation materials
  • Before the remake, the font size was adjusted, but after the remake, the font was changed to a UD Gothic font, making it possible to read small letters without any mistakes.
  • By leaving ample space between lines, the book is easy to read and the content is easy to understand in an orderly manner.

Students' reactions

When the instructor asked questions such as, "Who is a presentation for?" and "How much information does a presentation consist of?", the students answered loudly and enthusiastically, and it was clear from the very beginning that they were eager to learn.

In the practical presentation design section, we learned know-how while thinking about what makes slides easy to read and view.

Afterwards, the students opened sample PowerPoint data provided by the instructor on their tablets and participated in a "workshop" in which they created their own presentation materials that "communicated well."How to change the font typeHow to change the sizeHow to increase line spacingWe shared information such as these and continued working.

At the end of the class, when the students saw the instructor actually creating the data, one student exclaimed, "It's easier to see now!", and the class became a unified effort for all 80 students.

Thank you to all the students who worked on the assignment. I am very happy that the resulting material conveys your love for your hometown.

The importance of consciously choosing fonts and layouts with the recipient in mindI hope you will keep this in mind and use it when creating your presentation materials in the future!

For local governments like Namegata City that have signed up for the UD Font Plan for Public Organizations, we will not only provide the fonts at a special price, but also make suggestions to help them use the fonts in a way that is more in line with their intended use.
