Over three days from June 16th to 18th, 2025, we held a calendar production workshop with students from Tatung University in Taiwan.
This workshop was realized as a collaborative project between Professor Lin Ka-Hua of Tatung University in Taiwan, Professor Zhang Yi-Jun of Chiba University in Japan, and Morisawa.

18 students from Daido University participated.
Tatung University is a private university located in the center of Taipei City. In 2012, it was ranked first in the "Domestic Private University Industry-Academia Collaboration Contribution" ranking, and is a university that actively promotes collaboration with industry.

Workshop in progress
The students were divided into groups of 2-4 people and each group chose a theme and worked on designing a calendar.
On the first day, Professor Zhang taught the students the difference between art and design, and made them aware that expression is about communicating with others.
In Morisawa's lecture, students learned that "writing" plays an important role in "communicating."
The finished calendars were carefully crafted by each group to convey the essence of that month, with some teams incorporating Taiwanese culture into their designs, others focusing on illustrations, and others showcasing a sense of the season.
We spoke with Professor Hayashi Kahana of Daido University

Typeface is an extremely important element in design, and the font you choose can have a major impact on the overall impression and quality of your work.
Using the right typeface can give your work a sense of polish and sophistication.
This calendar production workshop was not simply a practical workshop, but was designed as a "learning opportunity" that combined an international perspective with specialized instruction, opening up new horizons for the students' thinking and expression.
Although the program was not long, it was an extremely intensive and valuable experience for the students.
I was able to learn a wide range of things, including the relationship between letters and design, choosing fonts according to the context, typesetting techniques, and the precision of Japanese font design. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Morisawa for supporting an environment where I could unleash my creativity.
After the workshop
It was of great significance to be able to convey the value of typography to the next generation of creators in a global setting such as a Japan-Taiwan collaboration.
In the future, Morisawa hopes to collaborate with educational institutions in other countries to provide the "experience of using fonts" and help foster awareness of characters, so stay tuned for further updates!
