Japan Designer Academy
Professor Yuko Zeniya
Japan Designer Academyhas been using Morisawa fonts for a long time in the creative activities of its students.
This time, we asked them about their thoughts on having their products installed as teaching materials on the personal computers of their students, regardless of their field of study, and their expectations for the new plan to start offering them to educational institutions.
Q. What can you learn at Nippon Designer Academy? What is emphasized?
Japan Designer Academy was founded in 1963 as a vocational school to train designers and creators, and is a traditional school that has produced many graduates. We offer a curriculum that even beginners can learn with confidence.
80% of classes are practical, and we place emphasis on individual instruction to bring out the individuality of each student. We also have a learning style that allows students to thoroughly engage in practical training and presentations, with each class lasting 140 minutes.
Furthermore, through practical lessons incorporating the latest industry information and collaboration with companies, students can acquire skills that will be immediately useful in professional settings. We strive to bring out the individuality and creativity of our students to the fullest and to cultivate talent that can thrive in the design industry.
Q. Why install Morisawa fonts on your personal computer?
We have introduced Morisawa fonts as teaching materials to provide students with the opportunity to experience high-quality fonts used in professional settings.
Fonts are an essential element not only in graphic design, but also in fields such as illustration, manga, and interior design, so we hope that students from a wide range of fields will be able to make use of them.
Q. How do you want students to use fonts?
By gaining experience in using professional fonts, students aim to acquire skills that will enable them to immediately become effective after graduation.
Fonts are one of the most important elements for creativity; no matter how good the graphics are, if even one font does not match the graphic, the impression and concept can change dramatically.
We hope that students will always be aware of and interested in the fonts they see in their daily lives, observe and consider what fonts are used effectively and for what purposes, and apply this to their own expressions to gain a deeper understanding of the subject.

Many students participated in the Morisawa project at the "OAC Student Advertising Creative Award 2024" held the other day, and three students from Japan Designer Academy won prizes! Here
Q. What do you expect from the newly released Moriawa Fonts Educational Institution Plan Student License?
While they are students, I hope they will spend time freely and without restrictions working with many fonts, so that they can gain a deeper understanding of how fonts are created and the intentions of font designers, and use this knowledge to further their studies.
Additionally, with many students working or working as artists while still in school, we feel that being able to use the plan for commercial purposes at a student price is a great benefit.
At Morisawa, we believe that providing a rich environment where students can use high-quality, professional fonts will help expand their future possibilities. We are very pleased that now that commercial use is permitted, students will be able to use Morisawa fonts more freely in their activities.
We will continue to support all students engaged in creative activities and the faculty and staff who support them, and will continue to strive to provide better services.
