Q. What kind of creative activities do you do?

Yu Miyano
We create products, websites, and other designs using the cross-disciplinary design we have learned in the Department of Integrated Design, with a focus on graphic design.

Recently, I was asked to design the graduation project for the Department of Theatre, Dance and Design at the same university. Because it was a dance seminar, I kept the text information to a minimum and expressed the dance movements through a series of photographs. I often combine text with photographs that I have taken myself.

Yoshiya Kajikuri
I have many friends who have their own shops or hold events, and I create graphic designs for them.

Q.The font's sensibility isONThe moment it became

Yu Miyano
When I entered art school.illustratorAt the time, I had already decided to enter an art school, and I didn't want to study for the entrance exams, so I didn't3I chose a class that no one else was taking.illustratorandPhotoshopI learned that choosing a typeface is an important part of design.

At the time, I thought choosing a typeface was "not very interesting," but after that, when I entered art school, my feelings changed completely. When I was working on an assignment to make a model of a hair dryer and take photos of them to be used on the pages of a magazine, I experienced for the first time that the atmosphere of the photo and the typeface did not match. That was the first time I realized, "This is what it means to choose a typeface!"ONThat was the moment.

Yoshiya Kajikuri
Junior high school3In the first gradeillustratorI started using it, but at the time I knew nothing about fonts.ONIt was a few years later, at university,2It was the second half of my second year of high school. When I installed Morisawa fonts and they suddenly appeared on the screen, I was like, "Wow! It's so big!!" I was really surprised. It felt like my world had completely changed. First of all, the number of options I had to choose from before I started worrying about what to use was a huge factor for me.

Q.What is your favorite Morisawa font and why?

Yu Miyano
It changes depending on the time, but I'm currently using it in my production, soTaigoB101" is my favorite. It's very simple, so you can create a variety of different looks by changing the spacing between the letters and the amount of white space. It can be cute, cool, or stylish.

I used it a lot for a while.Medium GothicBBBI also like "." At the time, I was a big fan of Helmut Schmidt's designs, and in one of his books he used medium gothic fonts for Japanese characters, which I thought was really cool, so I followed his example and used medium gothic fonts all the time.

Yoshiya Kajikuri
I'm not good at using Mincho fonts, so I don't have many choices, but the only one I like is "A1tomorrow morning" I really like the old-style, slightly melted feel. In my typography class, we write poems in Japanese, and at that time, "A1It feels good to use "Mincho".

Q.What do you think of the teachers at this school?

Yu Miyano
Because the students are all big names, I feel very nervous when I simply walk into the classroom. It also feels like it would be difficult to build close relationships with them.

However, when I walk around town, I see things designed by the school's teachers everywhere, and I can really feel that "Ah, our teachers are really amazing." They talk about all sorts of things in class, and it's really clear that they are trying to help their students grow.

Yoshiya Kajikuri
There are times when I think it's strange. That's because I sometimes wonder, "If I were such a famous designer, would I even pay attention to students?" Some professors laugh and say in between classes, "I was overseas yesterday for work, and the day after tomorrow I'm going to Okinawa, so I haven't slept at all," and it's strange that they come to school and look after students in the midst of such busy schedules. That's how grateful I am to be able to learn from such famous professors.

Q.The switch is "OFFThe moment it becomes

Yu Miyano
SwitchOFFI am very bad at typing, and today I stayed up all night typing without sleeping.OFFI wonder if that's the case.

Yoshiya Kajikuri
I am always myselfOFFI think that the power supply is completelyOFFIt's not that it's a sleep state, like a computer.ONBut other than that,OFFI like being active and have many hobbies, so I can devote my time to those things outside of design as well.

Q.What I want to challenge myself with and what I'm interested in

Yu Miyano
Right now, I'm in a period where I can't see the future in a good way, and there are a lot of things I want to do. When I consult my teachers about job hunting, they often say, "You should think about your future and join a company that can do big jobs," but I think I'd be happy if I could bring high quality to even small jobs. That's what I want to do as I work. Also, the challenges I want to take on in life are:1Even if it's just one,1I would like to create something that people will say is the most beautiful.

Yoshiya Kajikuri
In the past, I wanted to earn money, but my values of happiness have changed as I traveled. Now I enjoy communicating with people, and I value that more than anything else. I would like to work in a company with a friendly atmosphere, where I can build good relationships with both my colleagues and customers. I want to be a designer who can communicate well with anyone through design.
