A must-see for self-taught designers! A professional teaches you the efficient process of creating "communicative design" (Seminar Report)

Headline: Body text:

When you design, do you just start working in Illustrator? In fact, in the professional world, it's rare to start working in an application right away. So how do professionals put together their designs?

Morisawa holds various seminars on the theme of "communicating." Starting in July, we welcomed three professional guests to share tips for creating works that "communicate" for each item.
The first speaker was art director and designer Ryoichi Shibuya.Create a flyer that communicates from scratch" and taught us the design process and how to put together a flyer through the process of making a flyer!

Comments from seminar participants

I am currently studying design, and I would like to know how to structure the design in the assignments and practical work I will be creating in the future. It can be very useful as a design thinking toolI thought so!

PowerPoint presentation materials for research presentationsMaking it,Research summary for job huntingIt seems like it could also be used to create!

Advance preparation procedures and layout work proceduresOrganize it in easy-to-understand wordsI'm going to use what I learned in my future work.

After listening to today's lecture, I realized that the reason I had been struggling with design work up until now was because I was skipping over important processes and proceeding in the wrong direction!

From now on, "CITRAS"and"REAFI will keep this in mind as I create designs.

It seems that the seminar was very practical for the participants, and they can incorporate what they learned into their own future projects. Although the theme this time was flyer design, some participants said that they could use the knowledge in other projects as well.

Instructor introduction

Shibuya RyoichiMr.

Art director and designer. YouTube428: Pachi Pachi Design ChannelHe is currently broadcasting about the work of graphic designers and the designer mindset. He has a reputation for being "easy to understand" even for people who have never studied design professionally.
His first book,I worked hard on the design, but it just doesn't look professional.' (Shoeisha) is now on sale.

Advance preparation determines the efficiency of the design

The theme of the seminar I will be teaching this time is making flyers, but actually, when making flyers, the time spent using Illustrator is surprisingly short. The time spent on advance preparation is overwhelmingly greater, and efficiency is determined by how well you prepare.Creating a flyer to advertise this seminarUsing the example above, we will explain the process in four steps.

STEP 1 | CITRS

CITRS is a system I came up with to explain the design process in an easy-to-understand way, and it consists of the following five steps:

  • Concept
  • Idea
  • Taste
  • Research
  • Setting

Concept

The concept is to decide "who," "why," and "how" to communicate. The purpose of this seminar is to "introduce design beginners to how to create a flyer that communicates."For whom: Design beginnersTo,Why = To get people to attend the seminarTo,How to convey it = Make it seem not difficult, is the concept.

Idea

Without an idea, your target won't notice it. There are various ways to do this, such as surprise or discovery, but the main point is to "touch the target's heart." Also, it's good to think about ideas at the word level, and in this case, mouseorscreen, speech bubble, character, flyerAnd so on. I decided to adopt the idea that the flyer itself speaks volumes.

In this seminar, we were given a talk about the process and thinking behind creating a flyer from scratch.
Starting next time, the course will be held in a school format for three consecutive months, with Shibuya-san picking out the participants' pre-assignments and providing his comments.

This is a great opportunity to have your work seen by professionals, so please apply.
