Department of Visual Design, Faculty of Art and Design
Sakiya Karasawa

Q.What kind of creative activities do you do?

I am currently working on an animation project for my graduation project.
My interests include the process of how things are made, such as factory tours and recipe videos.
I'm interested in how things are made and how they are made.

Q. The moment when the font's sensitivity was turned on

When I did lettering in art class in junior high school, I learned the difference between Mincho and Gothic fonts.
At the time, I thought Mincho font looked cool, and from then on I became aware that there were differences in the characters.

Q. What is your favorite Morisawa font and why?

It's bamboo.
I like how simple it is, consisting only of straight lines.
It's amazing how all the letters are designed with straight lines, and when I read an interview with the designer on the website, I was amazed at the extraordinary attention to detail that went into adjusting the angles and other details.

Q. What do you think of the teachers at this school?

The teachers have strong personalities and offer a variety of opinions when they critique the work, so you can think for yourself and create your own work.

Q. The moment the switch turns "OFF"

You can relax by hugging Rilakkuma and being gently wrapped in a blanket.

Q: What would you like to challenge yourself with in the future? What are you interested in?

Become proficient in using animation software and 3DCG modeling software.
I want to pursue the expression of fascinating movement.

After the interview, we were shown some of Mr. Karasawa's work.
Mr. Karasawa focused on the "face and area" of the alphabet, visualizing the proportion of the face area for each typeface, and I was amazed at his fresh idea!
