The Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities prohibits government agencies and businesses from engaging in "unfair discriminatory treatment" of people with disabilities on the basis of their disability, and requires them to "provide reasonable accommodation" when requested by a person with a disability.
What was previously a voluntary obligation has now become mandatory with this amendment, making efforts to provide reasonable accommodation significantly more important.
As a font manufacturer, we can help provide reasonable accommodations from a typographical standpoint.

What is reasonable accommodation?
People with disabilities may find it difficult to live their lives due to social barriers.
When a person with a disability expresses a need for some kind of accommodation to enable them to live an equal life in society or the workplace, it is expected that accommodations will be made within the limits of what is not too burdensome.
In terms of UI (user interface), it is important that the content is easy to understand, but reasonable consideration may also be required for ease of viewing, so it is necessary to make efforts to make the content easy to read and understand.
Examples of consideration for "ease of communication"
- Readability of text and display size
・Easy-to-understand layout
- Color schemes that are considerate of people with color vision deficiencies, people with disabilities, and the elderly
・Support for languages other than Japanese

Evidence of visibility and readability
Morisawa is working with third-party institutions such as universities and medical institutions on comparative studies to verify the visibility and readability of UD fonts.
Research has shown that it is the easiest typeface to read, even for people with low vision and dyslexia (reading and writing disabilities), and has obtained scientific evidence of its readability.
By using UD fonts, you can support the creation of an environment where everyone has equal access to information and contribute to the realization of reasonable consideration.
