Kissem Corporation's CMS service for government agencies and local governments, "Web Accessibility Compatible CMS
Morisawa's "UD Font" has been introduced to "UDFace".
Why did Morisawa choose "UD Fonts" for its web font service TypeSquare?
We spoke to Susumu Kawaguchi of the CSP Group at Kissem Corporation.
Q1. Please tell us what you wanted to achieve by introducing TypeSquare.
We were looking for features and services that would differentiate UDFace from other companies, and we decided to implement TypeSquare because we thought it would allow us to add features and services that would differentiate us from other companies.
Q2. Please tell us why you decided to introduce it.
As interest in the SDGs grows, the importance of universal design is becoming more widely recognized in society. Against this backdrop, an increasing number of local governments are showing interest in UD fonts, but subscribing to fonts alone is a high hurdle for our customers (local governments), so we thought that being able to provide them as part of our CMS service would be appealing.
It is said that reading text on a display is more stressful than reading printed material. While websites are typically displayed in system fonts, we thought that if websites could be displayed in a more readable font, regardless of the viewing environment, it would reduce the stress of website users. Considering that local government websites are part of public services, we thought this would be beneficial for the local government (our client).

Q3. In what form will it be used as a service?
We have adopted TypeSquare for "UDFace," a CMS developed by our company specifically for local government websites, and currently offer it as an optional service.

UDFace adoption cases:Minamiyamashiro Village, Kyoto Prefecture
Font used: UD Shin Go

UDFace adoption cases:Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture
Font used: UD Shinmarugo, others

UDFace adoption cases:Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture
Font used: UD Shin Go
Q4. We would like to hear your opinions and thoughts from local government officials who are actually using the service.
We have received feedback from customers saying that it is easier to read and that reading on a display is less stressful.
In addition to these expected opinions, we also received favorable comments about the font, such as "it feels gentle" and "it's friendly." In other words, we learned that the font has appeal beyond its functional aspect of improving readability.

Q5. Please tell us about your future goals and prospects.
As an issue for the entire web industry, we would like to propose this to as many customers as possible so that easy-to-read web fonts become a common option.
Q6. What are your expectations for Morisawa's UD fonts in the future?
The issues with traditional web fonts have been technically resolved, so I don't think there are any concerns about loading speed, but I would like to see further improvements in loading speed. I think the current font lineup is sufficient.
