Arisa Kurihara

Q. What kind of creative activities do you do?

A. I'm studying graphic design.
Among these, I am particularly interested in editorial design and advertising.

Q. The moment when the font's sensitivity was turned on

A. When I was a ronin, I spent every day drawing and 2D compositions.
Soon after entering university, I was given an assignment to create typography using my own name, and that was when I first realized how much I enjoyed letters and fell in love with fonts.

Q. What is your favorite Morisawa font and why?

A. I like "small gothic"!
Above all, it's easy to use, doesn't look cluttered when lined up, and fits in neatly.
I like that it has a unique character so I don't feel lonely.
I also like the cute name "Koburina" (lol).

Q. What do you think of the teachers at this school?

A. Yokohama University of Art and Design does not have a large student population, so the students are very close to their teachers.
Because I receive frequent feedback from my teacher, I am able to notice things that I would not have noticed otherwise, which improves the precision of my work. I also enjoy being able to talk about design with my friends.

Q. The moment the switch turns "OFF"

A. I like photography, so I walk around campus with my compact film camera and take pictures of anything beautiful I find. Sometimes I get inspiration for a piece and think, "Maybe it would have been better if I had done it this way."

Q. What would you like to challenge yourself with in the future? What are you interested in?

A. I like relaxed, laid-back designs, so I often use gothic fonts like "Koburina Gothic."

I would like to expand my portfolio from now on, so I would like to be able to create neat and cool designs using Mincho fonts.
